There is such a wide range of ants in South East Queensland that can be a real problem around our homes and businesses. from the nasty fire ant to our common house ants.

Did you know that without bees our planet would die? Yes, bees are very important to nature and therefore to us. We, therefore, don't spray bees but use other methods to remove them from the area so that they aren't bothering you anymore.

A commonly found insect in homes and other buildings, the furniture beetle or borer can invade many other items of wood and survives even in dry wood.

Bed Bugs

Most of us have at some point slept in a hotel bed with bedbugs and woken up with the tell-tale signs of blood and bites on our bodies. These pests can quickly infest an accommodation establishment or our homes, so need to be treated immediately.

Book Lice

Psocoptera are an order of insects that are commonly known as booklice, barklice or barkflies dating back 295 million years. Despite their common name, they aren't really lice, but instead they get their name because they are often found amongst paper items.

Closely related to the termite, cockroaches are one of the most ancient insects of our planet and hence quite tough and indestructible as insects go. There are four common cockroaches in the Gold Coast and Brisbane regions that are pests to our homes and work places.

Fleas are those nasty small insects that live as parasites on humans, animals and birds. They survive by consuming the blood of their hosts. Adults are up to about 3 mm in length and usually brown. We often see flea infestations when properties have been left unattended for long periods of time or families with pets.

Mice are small rodents that typically have a pointed snout, relatively large ears to the size of their head and eyes, and a long tail.

Rats are very similar to mice with almost identical body features of long tail and a snout that is typically less pointed than a mouse's snout. Rats can carry diseases harmful to humans.

Spiders are air-breathing arthropods that have eight legs and with fangs that inject venom into their victims. They are the largest order of arachnids and rank seventh in total species diversity among all other orders of organisms on our planet.

Redback Spiders

The Australian redback spider (Latrodectus hasseltii) is a species of highly venomous spider that originated in Australia, but is now also found from Southeast Asia to Australia and New Zealand. It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus Latrodectus, which is the family of "widow" spiders.

A silverfish is a small, wingless insect of the order Zygentoma. Its common name is derived from it's silvery light grey color, together with the fish-like movements it has as it scurries along. They can do enormous damage to clothing and linen and can be difficult to eradicate if not treated professionally.

Termite workers, a single soldier with large jaws and termite swarmer are the usual forms of termites. Workers and swarmers are the two termite castes most likely to be seen in a home. Subterranean termites are insects that feed on wood, frequently becoming pests of homes. Drywood termites live within the wood they consume and oftentimes infest walls and furniture. When a colony has matured, winged, swarming termites can be seen around windows and doors.

Wasps are social winged insects that has a narrow waist and a sting and is typically yellow with black stripes. It builds a paper nest from wood pulp and raises the larvae on a diet of insects.

Mosquitoes are small, midge-like flies that constitute the family Culicidae. Females of most species are ectoparasites, whose tube-like mouthparts pierce the hosts' skin to consume blood. The word "mosquito" is Spanish for "little fly".

Midges are very small flies (0.5mm – 4mm long) that are renowned for their irritating habit of biting. They are most common around coastal habitats. The biting activity of midges is mainly limited to periods of dawn and dusk

Fruit Flies

These are those little flying insects buzzing around your kitchen for days, even though you got rid of the brown bananas and rotting fruit. Some exotic fruit fly species pose a serious threat to Australia. Many fruit flies are capable of infesting a wide range of commercial and native fruits in our South East Queensland gardens.

Enough to make any parent's scalp crawl, head lice are only found on the human head or hair. They are small wingless biting insects which live and breed in human hair and feed by sucking blood from the scalp which is why our scalp itches when we have them.

Grasshoppers, locusts, crickets and katydids belong to a group of insects known as orthopterans (meaning 'straight wings'). This is a moderately large group of insects with almost 3000 species estimated to occur in Australia.

Many sorts of insects are described as flies but "true flies" are a distinct group of insects. They can regularly be found in homes and businesses across South East Queensland. On average a house fly will live for about a month.
